About the art

Gittins favors using a different manner of painting in different parts of the same picture…sparkling water might be represented by little fragmented touches of vibrant color, whereas the fields and sky may be more smoothly and softly rendered and the clouds may be heavily laid in with a palette knife.

In another he may reflect a vivid and bold sky enhanced by large curling wide brush-strokes of color, while trees take on the appearance of surreal renderings with smaller more restrained dabs of paint.

Any activities or buildings that might appear in his paintings are normally dwarfed by the presence of bright and expansive fields of land, rugged coastal shores or shimmering light reflecting from inland streams, lakes or ponds.
